LGPS Update: Access and Fairness - Notification to all members

The Government has introduced changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) to make the scheme fairer for all members.
Most changes take effect from 1 April 2026 and some improvements apply retrospectively.
The following changes are being introduced:

• Fairer survivor benefits
• Changes to death grants
• Stronger protection when you are away from work

Please note that not all members will be affected by these changes. Members who are impacted will be contacted in due course once the Pension Fund has completed the necessary assessment and recalculation of any relevant benefits.
